Salomon Vergara moved to Lexington (from Panama) about two years ago. Salomon is an accomplished photographer, but has focused on the creation of a puppet theater while he has been in Lexington.

Vergara's Yerbabuena Puppet Theater has been entertaining children throughout Lexington with a brilliant performance based on David McKey's Elmer, the Colored Elephant--both in English and Spanish. Elmer, shows children the value of diversity and how to enjoy their own individuality.

This proposed event would include commissioning Vergara's Yerbabuena Puppet Theater to build new puppets and create a new bi-lingual performance based on the work of a Kentucky writer.

We have no writer in mind, but would like to afford Vergara the opportunity to teach spanish speaking and english speaking children how to perform the production and use the performances as a way to bring two isolated communities together.

Of course, Vergara has no idea that we are considering this (hello Salomon if you have found this), but we would love to make it a possibility for him--and for all of Lexington.
