"Transy Camp is the
coolest place
ever! If you come once, you'll be dying to come back because the
activities, the counselors, and the other campers make this camp an

Introduction
to
JAVA Programming
Advanced Programming and Robotics
- If you have prior experience with computers,
either through our camps or via other sources, this is the camp for you.
It is an intensive, week-long immersion into either advanced programming
issues or advanced robotic designs. Both sides of the camp will also be
taught competence in the Unix operating system. At the same time, it is still
very much a "work at your own pace" kind of experience.
- This camp shall be limited
to only 40 campers! Make sure you get
in
your application by May 1st. Applicants will be notified if they are
accepted to camp by May 15th. If you are not selected for the camp,
then your deposit will be refunded in its entirety.
- Please read the brochure for
any further application requirements.
Lego
Robotics Day Camp
- The robots of choice will be
the Lego Mindstorm Kits. The
Mindstorms camp will introduce students to the fundamentals of robot
building and programming. Along the way, some history and current
applications will also be introduced. But, the goal of the week is to
build your own robot capable of performing some task. Maze-following,
hunt-and-destroy, find
the light, and security patrol are some possibilities. Mindstorms
robots are programmable in an intuitive
visual language. No experience is necessary, but
students should be motivated about the field of robotics.
-
If
you choose to keep your robot
from the Lego camp, there will be a $220 extra charge. If you do not
wish to take the robot with you, there will be no charge. We will need
to know your choice at least one month prior to the camp so we can make
sure we order enough of the robots for you to take home.

|
- This camp shall be limited
to only 35 campers! Make sure you get
in
your application by May 1st. Applicants will be notified if they are
accepted to camp by May 15th. If you are not selected for the camp,
then your deposit will be refunded in its entirety.
- Please read the brochure for
any further application requirements.
College Preparation
Camp
-
This
is a pure academic camp. In
other words, unlike our other camps there will be no computer
instruction this week.
-
This
camp is structed to have two
academic sessions---one in the morning and one in the afternoon. So, you
might have a morning session in Economics and an afternoon session in
Religion. These lectures are given by the faculty and staff from
Transylvania. This is intended to give you a taste of college
life. The lectures that you hear will be basically the same ones you
might receive in a Transylvania class.
-
You will also be given
a
class during the evenings on ACT/SAT preparation. You will have two
nights of Math preparation and two nights of verbal preparation.
Classes like this could cost almost as much as our camp alone! Many of
our previous campers have told us that it has been especially useful
for them!
- We
will have a few talks in the
evening from people who will discuss the college experience.
-
This
camp shall be limited to
only 40 campers (25 from the Appalachian region and 15 from anywhere)! Make sure you get in your application by May 1st.
Applicants will be notified if they are accepted to camp by May 15th.
If you are not selected for the camp, then your deposit will be
refunded in its entirety.
- This
camp has been endowed by the
Jessie Ball DuPont Foundation. This is what allows us to charge
only a nominal fee for registration purposes. Students from the Appakachian region are supported; other students will pay full price.
- Please
read the brochure for any
further application requirements.
Housing
- The students will be staying
in the Poole dormitory, with two
campers per room (if possible).
- Each room has a phone, 2 beds, study desks,
bathroom, and a security system. The parents will be given a phone
number which rings directly into their son's or daughter's room. There
will be a community refrigerator, if needed.
- We
will activate the security system
each evening as we put our campers to bed. While we have never had any
problems, this is intended to make sure the campers stay as safe as
possible.
- Campers
are allowed to let us know
if they have a roommate preference. We will do our best to accommodate
as many people as possible.
- During
the evening's recreation
time, the campers will have the opportunity to use many of Transy's
facilities. The campers will have access to a pool, tennis courts,
racquetball courts, pool table, ping-pong table, etc.. There will also
be a chance to check e-mail and surf the 'net in the evening.
