GREEK WEEK 2005
February 2005 -- Greek Week 2005 was a smashing success. Our weeklong celebration kicked off with an all-Greek Service Project called Ready, Set, Study. More than 100 Greek students gathered in the Campus Center Gym to help build, decorate and deliver desks for students from Breckenridge Elementary. While the desks were being built, the young students also attended study skills programs led by Transy Greek members and learned more about being a good student.
Later than evening, The Zeus & Apphrodite pageant raised almost $1400 for UNICEF's Tsunami Relief Efforts. Delta Sigma Phi brother Steve Pratt was named Mr. Zeus and Lauren Jansen, was selected as Ms. Apphrodite.
On Tuesday, February 22, the Greek Week Blood Drive saw a record number of donations made for the Central Kentucky Blood Center. Delta Sigma Phi received the Bloodiest Chapter Award for the highest percentage of participants. Faculty and Staff also felt much appreciated during Greek Week that day when dozens of Krispy Kreme donuts were delivered to all campus offices by members of the fraternity and sorority community.
The lifelong benefits of a Greek Life were explored at Wednesday evening, Alumni Leaders Panel. An outstanding graduate member of each chapter was on hand to talk about the impact fraternity and sorority membership has had on their lives since graduation. Alumni representatives were Judge Julia Adams (CW); Alice Barrette (DDD); Tiffany Wheeler (FM); Jennifer Price (AOP); Dr. Daniel Mongiardo (KA); Kevin Brown (DSF); Vince Bingham (FKT) and Jack Hillard (PKA).
On Thursday, a perennial favorite -- Greek Family Feud -- was hosted by economics professor and Greek alumnus, Alan Bartley. The women of Delta Delta Delta won the prestigious honor of all-Greek Feud champion!
To conclude the week, the Annual Presentation Ball was hosted at the Radisson Plaza Hotel. Following the presentation of the lovely sorority new members from each sorority, the 2005 Greek Awards were presented. Colene Elridge of AOII was named the 2005 Greek Woman of the Year and Tommy Haggin of Kappa Alpha Order was selected as Greek Man of the Year. Click on Greek Award Winners to see the other awards presented that evening.
The Greek Community is grateful to Alicia Still, Greek Week coordinator for her hard work and to the Greek Week delegates from each chapter!
