Fraternity Recruitment Guidelines

Each potential new member is responsible for knowing and observing the Recruitment Guidelines.  Violations of the rules could result in the removal of the potential new member from fall Formal Recruitment.

Eligibility

All unaffiliated men who are regularly matriculated students (full-time) at Transylvania are eligible to participate in Fall Formal Recruitment.

Registration

A fraternity potential new member shall be required to register for fall Formal Recruitment by 12 noon on Friday, September 16.  To register, complete the recruitment registration form and mail it to the address listed.  Students who register will receive a confirmation card in their Transylvania mailbox when they arrive on campus in the fall.  Please contact the Greek Life Office at (859) 233-8660 if you do not receive a registration card after arriving on campus and you have registered.

Attendance & Invitations

Attendance at men’s recruitment functions is not mandatory.  However, we strongly recommend that you attend all events.  Each chapter is unique and offers a quality Greek experience.  It is important for you to get to know members of each chapter in order to make the decision that is right for you.

The final men’s events, the Invitational Parties, are by invitation only.  Chapters will deliver invitations to you or to your mailbox prior to this final round.

Alcohol

All recruitment functions will be dry.  Alcohol shall not be present at any recruitment activity in any form.  Alcohol may not be purchased for or distributed to any potential new member.  Potential new members and chapter members are expected to be sober at all recruitment events and activities.

Contact Guidelines

Transylvania's IFC believes that normal social interaction between potential new members and fraternity men prior to the start of formal recruitment should not be disrupted.

Potential new members are asked not to visit Davis fraternity halls outside of normal residence hall visitation hours and fraternity men shall not visit Clay Hall outside of normal residence life visitation hours.

No fraternity man, regardless of status, shall be with a potential new member where alcohol is present.

Strict silence will be in effect Thursday, September 30 at midnight until the conclusion of the Bid Day ceremony on October 2 at 10 a.m. During strict silence, fraternity men are forbidden from any type of communication with potential new members with the exception of friendly “hellos”.

Open Door Policy

Whenever an affiliated man and a potential new member are in residence hall room, the door must remain standing fully open at all times.

Bidding

Any man who wishes to pledge shall fill out a bid card on Friday, October 8, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Greek Affairs Office.  Each potential new member must pay a $20.00 pledge fee to the Interfraternity Council at the time of bid signing.

Potential new members who sign a bid card but desire to change their decision before running out on bid day will not be allowed to accept a new bid until midnight after bid day.
