How do I join a Fraternity?
Membership Recruitment (Formal Recruitment) is organized by the Interfraternity Council and is a mutual selection process during which both the potential new member (PNM) and chapter will determine the place best suited for that individual. Activities are planned and designed so each PNM has the opportunity to meet all of the chapter members on campus. The formal fraternity recruitment process at Transylvania consists of a series of three rounds of events: Chapter Room Events, Off-Campus Events, and Invitational Nights. These parties are simply an opportunity to meet the men in the chapters and attendance does not obligate you to pledge a fraternity. It is important when going through the recruitment process to give every chapter equal consideration and to attend as many of the events as possible.
Open Recruitment
Fraternities differ from the sororities at Transylvania in that they may work to recruit nonaffiliated students year round. If you choose not to affiliate with a fraternity in the fall by participating in the formal recruitment process, you may have an opportunity to join at a later time in the academic year. This process is referred to as continuous open bidding. Fraternities may issue open bids at any time throughout the academic year.
