In order to protect the rights of all members of the Transylvania community, and to provide recourse for persons whose rights may have been violated, a volunteer support committee, entitled the Sexual Harassment and Assault Resource Committee, has been established. Consisting of at least six members of the student body (male and female) and four members of the faculty or staff (male and female), this committee is trained by professionals to assist members of the Transylvania community with regard to questions of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Each faculty or staff member will serve two-year terms, with the option of reapplying. Each studentrepresentative will serve a one-year term, also with the option of reapplying.
Members of the Sexual Harassment and Assault Resource Committee must attend training sessions to prepare them to provide competent support and assistance to concerned or aggrieved individuals through any of the university grievance procedures the individual might choose to pursue.
Any member of the Transylvania community may consult with a member of SHARC or use any of the support services available, regardless or whether or not formal charges or complaints are registered. An individual may consult with any member of SHARC without the knowledge of other members of the committee. All such communication will be treated with the utmost seriousness, and confidentiality will be ensured until formal proceedings are initiated.

One out of every three women will be raped in her lifetime.
An estimated 92,700 men are forcibly raped each year in the United States. Excluding rapes in institutions, about 9% of all rape victims are men.
Almost 70% of the rape and sexual assault victims knew the offender as an acquaintance, friend, relative, or intimate.
Only 16% of rapes are reported to police. In a survey of victims who did not report rape or attempted rape, the following was found as to why no report was made: 43% thought nothing could be done, 27% felt it was a private matter, 12% were afraid of police response, and 12% felt it was not important enough.
Nearly 1/3 of all rape victims develop rape-related STDs in their lifetimes.
