Our History
"Let us found a society that shall be kind alike to all and think more of a girl's inner self and character than of her personal appearance." - Sarah Ida Shaw, founder, 1888

The
purpose of Delta Delta Delta shall be to
establish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members,
to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden
the moral and intellectual life, and to assist its members
in every possible way.
It shall also be the purpose of Delta Delta Delta to promote
and develop mutually beneficial relationships between the
Fraternity and the colleges and universities where the
Fraternity has established chapters, to develop qualities of
unselfish leadership among its members, and to encourage
them to assume, with integrity and devotion to moral and
democratic principles, the highest responsibilities of
college women.
The Delta Delta Delta fraternity was founded on Thanksgiving
Eve, 1888, at Boston University in Massachusetts. Sarah Ida
Shaw, Eleanor Dorcus Pond, Florence Isabelle Stewart and
Isabel Morgan Breed were the initial founders of Tri-Delta.
These young women found this chapter and had great vision
for its future. Three years after its founding it was
recognized as an established national organization and was
invited to be a member of the
Panhellenic Association.
Our Emblems
The
pearl is our jewel and represents our new members because
it is the one jewel that grows, developing from a tiny grain of sand
into a thing of great value and beauty.
The
pansy is our flower and represents our alumni membership
and the third step in the lifetime development of Delta Delta
Delta's members.
The
pine is our tree and represents our active collegiate
members because it growth and lofty aspirations and is a combination
of all three of our colors: silver, gold, and blue.

The dolphin is Tri Delta's animal and was considered a good omen by the ancient Greeks. It symbolized rebirth, friendship and leadership. In Tri Delta the dolphin is symbolic of clear skies and smooth sailing and has special significance for Fraternity leaders.

The patron Greek divinity of Tri Delta is Poseidon, god of
the sea and one of the three rulers of the universe.
Tri Delta's colors are silver, gold and cerulean blue. Green is also significant for Tri Delta as it represents the union of the three colors.
